This week on Thursday January 26th, Sundance Cinema Houston will be premiering the comedy Bachelorette starring Lizzy Caplan and Kirsten Dunst. The city of Houston is one of only nine other cities that will be participating in a truly unique event. Across the country other films will also be making their premiere far from Park City Utah where the annual Sundance Film Festival is held.
For those like myself who cannot attend the festival in person, this small piece of Sundance gives Houstonians a chance to experience watching a film weeks or possibly even months before it’s even released in theatres. How cool is that! Having a Sundance Cinema in Houston obviously gives us the leg up and it should not be taken for granted. The Sundance Cinema Houston opened late last year in November and is still new to the Houston area. With events like this though, film enthusiasts and movie buffs won’t take long to notice.
Bachelorette is a comedy about three women who are bridesmaids to a woman they were rude to while in high school. The bride and her bridesmaids go out and things get out of hand The Hangover style. Also starring in the film is James Marsden, Isla Fisher and Adam Scott. I’m a fan of everyone in the cast and am interested to see where this story goes. My hope is that it is not a Bridesmaids/The Hangover clone and simply tries to cash in on the success of the aforementioned films. The one big difference is that this looks like both guys and girls are in on the fun in this film.
